The Gravity of Homicide: Interpersonal Violence and International Trade

Does interpersonal violence diminish international trade? This paper seeks to answer this question using a PPML gravity model. The paper breaks trade into four sectors: manufactures, agriculture, services, and extraction. Across all sectors, negative relationships are found, but these relationships vary from sector to sector.

I began working as an RA for Professor Michael Anderson (Washington and Lee University) in June 2023, and this paper is the largest focus of mine in this role. The paper is authored by Michael A. Anderson, Morgan Dalton, Syed Rafay Hassan, and Stephen L. S. Smith.
